Title: Characterisation and (U-Th-Sm)/He dating of Moroccan super gene ore deposits

The demand for minerals is ever-expanding, only think about the gadgets and high technology we use every day. Supergene ore deposits are extremely interesting for extraction of minerals due to lower costs (and pollution) and their relatively high content of metals and Rare Earth Elements (REE). They are formed through the exposure of buried rocks and primary (hypogene) ore bodies at the Earth’s surface followed by oxidation of sulfides and native metals, the dissolution of host rocks, and the re-concentration of (mainly metallic) elements. In her thesis, Michèle focussed on the weathering processes and proposes new insights into the periods and potential causes with the help of a new dating method based on the radioactive decay of U, Th, and Sm.
Another high-quality thesis to discover either on-site or virtually!
