During this conference, this time for the large public, Dr. (!) Julie Duchêne (History / PolleN) will present the results of her thesis on the history of the wolf in Wallonia and Luxembourg from the 18th to the 20th century, shedding new light on the history of the wolf in Wallonia. What images of the wolf were conveyed by the sources during this period? What policies were put in place by the various authorities to combat the species, culminating in its disappearance in the early 20th century? And, finally, who were the wolves that populated our lands at that time? Finally, Julie will share with the public the results of the palaeogenetic analyses carried out on a dozen naturalised wolves preserved in museums, institutions and partner organisations throughout Wallonia, a project that was a novelty in Belgium, at the crossroads of history and biology.

Several members of ILEE participated in this project: Isabelle Parmentier (History), Jonathan Marescaux (e-Biom), Liévin Castelain (biology)
