Two PhD students will present their research: Jean from the Chemistry Department started his thesis in 2023 supported by a FRIA grant (FRNS). Laura is a PhD student from the University of South Bohemia (Czech Republic), who is visiting the team of Eli Thoré (URBE, Biology) for a few weeks in June and July. She is principally working with Theresia Kimario on aquaculture studies.
Jean Poucet (Chemistry):
Elucidation of the mechanism of action of uridine diphosphate glucosyltransferases in the pea aphid: Towards new targets in pest control
This PhD research investigates the role of UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs) in the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum, an important agricultural pest. By combining RNA interference, structural modeling, molecular docking, and enzymatic studies, Jean aims to identify UGTs that could serve as novel targets for safer and more selective insect control strategies.
Laura Ostolaza Perez-Cruz (University of South Bohemia, Biology):
Physiological, Molecular, and Histological Responses of Juvenile Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) to Different Stocking Densities in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS)
This study aims to determine the maximum stocking density for juvenile pikeperch in RAS without negatively impacting their physiology, ultimately optimizing system efficiency.
